*Stories, Essays, & Articles… (A work in progress)
I don’t have a writing agenda. I don’t have to answer to editors or publishers. I have no deadlines to meet. Nothing is planned in advance. Somehow, ideas just strike me in their own chosen time. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I am very fortunate that I get to write about anything at all that inspires me. I like to think of it as independent inspiration that comes out of the clear blue SEA.
My largest works are my books, of course. But in all honesty, each one of them began from my SEA writing collection. To me, writing a book is merely compiling a series of short stories (i.e., chapters) that evolve into a larger story. Writing books is a labor of love, with intense time-consuming labor being the key words. Being an author is very rewarding. However, I find that writing short stories, essays, and articles (SEA) may be even more rewarding and definitely less labor-intensive. Hours or days -vs- months or years! And way more fun!
As a Vietnam War veteran, I find myself frequently writing about that topic. Much of my early writing was on serious military service themes because the war experience was so very impactful on my life. To do that sort of writing requires a deep-down soul searching of war memories, which is often very emotionally difficult to pen. But it is also often well received and highly regarded by a large number of readers. Especially fellow Veterans and their loved ones. Note: The non-Vietnam pieces listed below are marked with an asterisk (*).
On the other hand, writing nostalgic stories, satire, anecdotes, and opinion articles is just plain old fun! Some of it is serious, some is silly. This is where much of my recent writing and planned future writings are focused. Whatever I decide to write about, I write with one goal in mind: Creating a piece that is highly worthy of your valuable reading time. So, I hope you enjoy my following eclectic SEA* collection.
