ON AGING. (Thanks for reading.)
As I age… I know it’s coming.
Or maybe it has already arrived.
I sometimes find myself wondering,
“Am I REALLY old yet? Will I thrive?”
I asked my six grandchildren early this morning,
they were all nervous but politely reassuring.
“No, Grandpa, you’re not REALLY old… not yet.”
So, I had to ask in reply,
“REALLY? Are you sure?”
They paused while their eyes met,
trying really hard to think about why.
I’m not going to dwell on it. There’s no reason to sigh.
Maybe the kids were right… even though they couldn’t say why.
Maybe I am not REALLY old, maybe not just yet.
Regardless, I am sure that I can place my bet
that becoming an aging relic in time is near.
I really believe that’s not something to fear.
So, my friends… raise your beer,
let’s enjoy our time together,
while we’re all still here!
(May we all live long, in good health, and age gracefully.)
(And don’t trust the polite grandkids!)
